Happy International Children’s Day.
In Vietnam, we celebrate June 1 as Children’s Day. For many people of the young generation, this day means money/ candies/ toys/ family day out possibly up until they are 18. There’s never much, but the feelings collect up and last long. They remind me to think about what I want to and will do, as though I can still joke with my dear friends as if we’re high school students, soon all of us will enter the stage where we can choose to make great impact on the generation that will own the future.
We are owning the current future, isn’t that a bit unnerving? Haha.
(We don’t celebrate World Children’s Day partially because of history and partially because November 20th is Vietnamese Teachers’ Day. The Mid-Autumn Festival is pretty much all for children anyway.
On the other hand, we celebrate both International Women’s Day and Vietnamese Women’s Day. I certainly am not complaining, lol)
I was doing some pre-sleep thinking (in bed) when beindingsignpost’s fic ‘Stranger at the Gate came up into my mind.
“John, skip lunch today. I will come get you at the clinic in the afternoon.”
“Why?”
“I need you for my experiment. I want to measure the coagulation of saliva after you-“
“Please shut your mouth.”
For example, I remember those strangers on Omegle who got very frustrated with Sherlock questions.
I really sympathized with them. I know most people don’t know Sherlock and most people on the Internet don’t watch Sherlock. If I repeatedly receive questions that refer to something I don’t know and don’t give much context to facilitate a conversation, I would feed secluded and maybe after a while a bit fed up with that topic - even if I still don’t know what it is (most fandom questions I met on Omegle could only be discussed by fans who remembered and liked the details: they don’t invite broader interests, like, for example, a teaser on a book’s cover may).
It can be said that it is possible to love something without being affected by its fandom, but I think it is much easier to have negative impression toward something you feel neutral about if the fandom is overwhelming and passionate to the point of appearing as aggressive. It is really difficult to come off as modest on the Internet.
I came by this post today and thought that the author has expressed from this point of view with great spirit, so I quoted her even though she was speaking specifically to one fandom.
Of course, I have no rights to tell anyone what they can do or who they can ship and such. Moreover, shipping doesn’t require the ship to actually be in canon. I myself is a hardcore shipper of various pairings so I understand. For some, shipping helps them enjoy the show more, so by all means, I am not judging.
But, if posible, I wish SentaroxKaoru shippers would please kindly tone it down a little bit.
I know some may possibly be joking; but seeing things like “this anime is definitely gay”, “I refuse to believe they’re straight”, “SO HETEROSEXUAL”, “HOMOSEXUAL” (the non-sarcastic So Heterosexual version of course), “they’re so gay for each other”, “GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY” and etc, and seeing them repeatedly, somehow dampens my spirit in watching the show, reading the manga, and joining the fandom. These statements are just waaaay too definite, despite the fact that they are heavily opinionated. I just want to enjoy the show for Sentaro’s and Kaoru’s ‘bromance’, their strong mutual love of music, and for the shades of their relationship.
As usual, for a NoitaminA series, I love the thoughtfulness put in developing characters’ interaction. So, to me, hastily pasting the “romantic” label on the relationship between Sentaro and Kaoru is like denying the strength of a NoitaminA series. In between ‘Strangers’ and ‘Romantic Lovers’, there are just so many different shades to the dynamics of a relationship - ‘friend’, ‘comrade’, ‘companion’, ‘support’, ‘guidance’. NoitaminA likes to paint these shades in their shows, and they paint them well.
Nothing is definite, that’s why I love watching the changing shards of brilliance in a NoitaminA’s character interaction as the show develops and the relationship unfolds.

Vampire is an attractive mystical topic so I have a lot of weird thoughts sprouted from it.
- I feel like most of the time a vampire either die in combat or just heal quite quickly in a magical way. My human mind finds that a grey area is missing. If immortality is mostly related to superior healing ability, I imagine that more fatal wounds would stress the healing process and push the margin of error in the execution.
In short, can it lead to cancer?
- More fun: if I can give vampire a magical ability (aside from dark magic) like in fantasy/ simple heroes stories (simple ~ Powerpuff Girls) it would be the affinity with plants (i.e. growing tree). My daft logic is that if a human may choose to eat only plant products because they love animals, a vampire may choose to eat only animal products because they loves plants. Not that moving up the food chain is of any help, but…
In the heat of fangirl rave on tumblr after The Hound of Baskerville, there was often this topic on a) How Greg was absolutely dishy (agreed), b) How the scene with the hound is entirely random on him - no previous disclosure what so ever (agreed), and c) How John is totally badass and Greg is adorably guideless in that scene (did not exactly agree).
I mean… for a DI coming back from a vacation, his shot at the random unidentifiable beast that jumped out of nowhere was arguably good. In that whole scene his fighting reactions were good too (better than what I’ve seen in a number of Hollywood movies =)).
So, eh, there.
Tumblr and Omegle has given me a lot of fun posts on Sherlock and Good Omens. I love both of them, crossing them over is almost a guaranteed laugh (though I would like to see Good Omens x Torchwood more).
Imagining Sherlock casts in Good Omens is fun too, as they are really good at acting.
Imagining Sherlock characters as Good Omens characters is not… The personalities are so distinctive they would be really OOC, especially John - Aziraphale. I would ship something like John - Delivery man though =).
The other day I saw a picture of Sherlock as Morpheus (Sandman)… It put me off a bit. They are way too different.
