I admire that band, that conductor, and much of this set, but I don’t know what planet Hogwood’s “Pastoral” is on. Our traveler is jogging too fast for happy feelings—he’s anaerobic. Hogwood’s tempo is nearly three metronome clicks faster than Karajan’s, whose tempo is on the brisk side for his time. But Karajan wouldn’t even rate on today’s dog track.

It has been 23 years since Hồng Nhung’s famous recording of this song. Now her voice and style has evolved much - they are less innocent and more sophisticated, less raw and deeper in sweetness. There’s a quality that has kept though: the joy radiated through every line. I can always feel that Hồng Nhung smiles as she sings it, then and now.
Also I would love to have an áo dài that flows like hers does on her body for my wedding. <3
